The secret is out…

The other day I had the rare opportunity to get in the car and cruise around Bentonville Arkansas. It’s not very often that I can sneak away and drive around town without having buyers in the car or on a mission involving real estate! Don’t get me wrong – I love what I do. Sometimes – you just have to cruise around town by your self!

A windy, cool, mid-week day made it fairly quiet on the square.  The renovations of the first store of  Sam Walton have been completed; today they had his old Ford truck parked in front! I had a chance, brief encounter with Mr. Sam Walton and his brother Bud when I first arrived in this area. They both appeared to be just good home town men.  At that time in 1992,  I really had no concept of what Wal-Mart was and no idea that it would become the world’s largest retailer.

It was a little early for the noon time rush at the great restaurants around the square. If you are in town – you must make plans eat one of them! I am fond of several, but a great steak burger at The Station Cafe is always good for the soul; but not for the waistline! No I didn’t have on on this journey. It’s a meal to share with friends.

Leaving the square I headed northeast passing the construction site of the new 21c posh hotel coming Spring of 2013. Another added boast to the overall economy in this area! No one out on the skating rink today – it’s a fun place to take the kiddos!

I love driving around and seeing many of the older homes in various stages of reconstruction. Lots of hammers were heard in the background as I cruised up to see the new back look out area for the Crystal Bridges Museum

This overlook area is convenietly located on NW A street with public parking and restrooms, with very easy access to the walking trail. This new overlook is of the back side of the museum and was a place used to observe the construction. It now offers stone benches and a serene view of the copper roofs. Wonderful aromas waft from the museum restaurant, Eleven as they prepare to serve lunch. The walking and biking trails that surround this beautiful place are wonderful. The cities in Northwest Arkansas are really promoting and supporting the trail system.

After driving through several of the surrounding areas of downtown, I headed west to check out some new subdivions that I hadn’t been in since the new construction building started again in earnest a couple of months ago. The growing pains have been especially hard on the traffic flows – personally I don’t think the people on the planning stages 20 years ago had any idea of the growth that would occur here. This area at one time was more farmland and apple trees than buildings and freeways. So therefore, it’s grow and catch up at the same time.

A snapshot of the past on the way to present day subdivisions. I saw many crumbling buildings along the way to the several new building areas – this one just stuck with me. It’s sad in a lot of ways, and yet growth to survive is also necessary for towns.

New freeways are coming in around here, streets are being widen,  more houses are coming and more people are moving in.  Growth is essential for survival. Northwest Arkansas has been placed on the map as one of the Top  12 Travel & Leisure destinations for 2012.

Our little secret is out – Northwest Arkansas

is the place to live!

Exciting opening of Crystal Bridges Museum!

“Rosie the Riveter”

Excitment was in the air this past week in Bentonville Arkansas with the opening of Crystal Bridges Musuem of American Art. I had the opportunity to preview the museum last Wednesday as an Original Member – WOW was my response. From the exterior architecture to the soothing interior – from Colonial to Modern – there is something for everyone. This will be a destination for many art lovers from all over the world and we are so fortunate to have this in our back yard. If you are in this area for vacation or work – make time to spend a few hours at this wonderful musuem.

Busy time in real estate!

So I thought I would be able to start a blog and actually keep up with it! Oh such good intentions we have when we start something new….

Between acquiring more beautiful homes to market for sale and buyers ready to jump on the very low interest rates; it’s very difficult to find time to chat on a blog that no one really pays attention to anyway!!!

For anyone that does read this blog -

The real estate market in Northwest Arkansas continues to keep good agents working – those agents willing to take care of their customers needs will continue to stay busy. If you know the market, meaning the product that you are representing, can analyze some numbers, and treat your customers the way you would like to be treated – you will succeed! It helps to absolutely LOVE what you do ~ because it shows every time you are talking real estate.

A couple of days ago, I met with a past client that purchased a home four years ago with my assistance and is now relocating his family east. During our meeting many questions were asked from both sides ~ at one point the gentleman starts laughing and says ” this is why you are the only one we would work with ~ your honesty is so refreshing! Can we take you with us out of state to buy our next home?” To me, that was the best compliment I could ever receive!!

No amount of money can give you that kind of feeling inside – when people really appreciate the work you do. Many people don’t have a clue how real estate agents get paid and I won’t get into the details; I’ll save that for another blog! I will share that it’s not easy money… It can be expensive and you work long hours, you are your own boss yes – but I don’t get any of the pie until the home closes between buyers and sellers…and the pie slice isn’t as much as you might think. You must love what you do and I love being busy in real estate!

The market here is going strong and I believe we will continue to keep a steady pace. This area offers some beautiful neighborhoods and the fantastic Crystal Bridges Museum in downtown Bentonville AR opening in a few weeksCrystal Bridges Museum will certainly draw many more people to this area.

Thankful it’s a busy time in real estate ~

Service, service, service

So another Monday afternoon in NWA…cloudy skies and a chance of rain today….

So today I ask – What does service mean to you?

I don’t mean the actual serving in the armed service service -  as there is really no way to say “Thank You” enough to all of our Service men and women; but everyday dealings with people who serve you. From your server at the place you have lunch or dinner, or the person that does your dry cleaning,or the real estate agent that helps you buy or sell a home, or the person that is a cashier at your local supermarket and the list goes on…in one way or the other we are all in the service business.

Service to me means being the best you can be!! Give that person a warm smile or stop to chat a moment or maybe ask how their day is…. serving people is something we all do every day – be the best that you can be!!

Have a fabulous day!

Hello World!!

So – a new venture for me….writing a blog….what exactly is a blog and why would anything I say mean anything to anyone else???!! Funny how we all assume that we have something important to say ……so instead of babbling along; I thought I would share a photo I took earlier this spring on Main Street downtown Bentonville AR.

Home to the orginal Walton’s 5 & Dime store -which now has become the world’s largest retailer…. Wal-Mart. On every Wednesday & Saturday mornings from May to October- the Bentonville Square hosts a Farmer’s market – where you will find excellent locally grown produce….Friday evenings during Spring & Summer bring art walks, local bands, and just good community fun! This is Main Street USA! Welcome to my musings  – as I share some of the many wonderful places in NWA…
